description: IF WE ARE searching for an all-round student, endowed with beauty, brains, athletic and fashion mindedness, we won't have to look farther than Alice Dong, 18, who should easily fill the bill, This daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. Dong, former Alert Bayans, is a perennial scholarship winner, having just received the $300 Regional Scholarship granted by UBC Alumni and an additional $108 tuition paid by the government for being the top student throughout her high school years. During this period, Alice was gobbling up scholastic honors with the regularity of our morning breakfast. Among her prizes: $100 Kiwanis scholarship, $10 scholarship and crest and the Kiwanis Book prize.In high school, she headed her class in biology, English and French, the latter earning her a prize from the French government. Graduating from High School, she took the "Girls Honor's Award" for being an all-round student, excelling in scholastic, citizenship and sports programme.In extracurricular activities, she rose to the presidency of the Students Council, during which term she hatched the alumni reunion for King George High Students, bringing together graduates who passed through the school portal, from 1914 on. But even this highly responsible post did not consume all of her time. She was still tagged for table officer duties in the following groups: Red Cross, High Y, UN Club, UBC discussion club on current events; worked on the students paper, helped edit its yearbook—The Georgian.In sports, she was on the school's basketball, badminton and track teams and piloted the tennis team to the championship crown in 1960. This winsome gal was the unanimous choice of her fellow students for the TV program—Reach For the Top, and as her alma mater's representative on the all High School design and fashion modelling contest.Alice comes from a family of scholars. It was her parents ambition to see that their children have an education; and the children responded magnificently as each has emerged from UBC with a degree: Jim, in engineering; Bill, in commerce; Mrs. Ronnie Lou Poy, in pharmacy; Mrs. Bob Lee (ex campus queen) in public health nursing; Betty in arts. Alice has just returned from a tour of Europe sponsored by the Caneuro Students Journey Ltd. Now she's settling down at UBC, ready to pluck off more honors—in arts and science faculty.
